by Edward Hartley Dewart
The controversy that precipitated Dr. Dewart's book involved Professor Workman who alleged that the Old Testament messianic prophecies were not really prophecies in the sense of predictions. In addition, Dr. Workman alleged that Jesus did not literally fulfill any of these so-called prophecies except in an ethical sense.
Dr. Dewart responded by defending both the elements of actual PREDICTION in the Old Testament messianic prophecies, as well as the actual FULFILMENTS of these messianic prophecies in and by Jesus Christ. Nearly half of the book is taken up by Dr. Dewart's detailed analysis of 13 messianic prophecies which were fulfilled in Jesus Christ. These 13 prophecies have been counted as messianic prophecies throughout Christendom for nearly 2 millennia.
This book is important for us today because we still have these same two diametrically opposed views concerning messianic prophecies. Essentially all of the liberal, critical scholars have taken the stance that Jesus did not fulfill any messianic prophecies, even if this view is contrary to the witnesses of Christ and the New Testament writers. Now even some of the evangelical scholars are taking this same stance. Thus, it is important for Bible-believing Christians to understand these issues and learn how to defend the New Testament doctrine that Christ fulfilled Old Testament messianic prophecies.
This e-book is "annotated," and I, Victor Vadney, am the annotator. You will find my annotations in certain footnotes, in the Annotated Bibliography, in the brief biographies of Drs. Dewart and Workman, and in a very short chapter entitled "Annotator." I have not tampered or changed any of the arguments Dr. Dewart articulated. However, there are some errors in the original, especially having to do with the references in the footnotes. In these footnotes I propose the corrections.
by Richard Hodgson
This public domain book has 25,882 words, and was first published in 1842 in London. Richard Hodgson, the author, used nearly half of the book to discuss Messianic Prophecies. There prophecies were spoken and written in the Old Testament and then fulfilled by Jesus Christ in the New Testament.
In the rest of the book, Hodgson considered the Old Testament prophecies and their fulfillments concerning some ancient countries and peoples. Specifically he addressed prophecies and fulfillments regarding Nineveh, Babylon, Tyre, the Arabs, Egypt, and the Jews.
Lastly, Hodgson offers "Questions for Examination." These questions are concerned with the last half of the book, and are a very good reminder of all that Hodgson discussed on those pages.
In 1842, Hodgson made an excellent effort to portray the biblical view of prophecy, namely, that such a view entails a real foretelling of future events. This happened because God knows the future before it comes to pass (Isaiah 41:22, 26; 44:7; 45:21; 46:10). It is also because God revealed His prophecies to His prophets (Amos 3:7), and they proclaimed them fearlessly.
This book was carefully reproduced using various old copies. In as much as possible, the general layout of the old print copy was followed. However, since two columns over many pages are incompatible with MOBIPOCKET and EPUB technology, these were reworked into one "column" using the author's orginal text. Errors in Hodgson's text are marked by footnotes where Victor Vadney of Desert Willow Publishing makes annotations. Other annotations are found at the end of Hodgson's text.

This is a verse by verse study of 1 & 2 Thessalonians using the NASB text. It starts with the background in Acts regarding the apostle Paul's second missionary journey. Then there is a brief description of the author, date of writing, and the theme. This very evangelistic church in Thessalonica was beloved by the apostle Paul. However, they did have problems including not wanting to work in order to care for their families, and also not understanding the apostolic teachings on the second coming of Christ. Paul wrote primarily to compliment them and to encourage them to keep up the good work. He also wrote to correct their errors in faith and practice.
This e-book should be helpful in teaching classes for junior high, senior high, and adult members of the church.
